I've given a fair amount of thought to the claim that Sivil's car hops wore roller skates. It does not comport with my memory. Further, all the illustrations I have seen in various publications show them in boots, usually resembling the boots worn by high school majorettes and drill team members, sometimes cowboy boots. The article referenced by M.C. mentions that to pass muster with Mrs. Sivil, the boots had to be clean and polished.
My recollection of the Sivil's lot in Dallas is that only a small portion nearest the building was paved with concrete, and that most of the lot where the cars parked was gravel. Of course, that memory is on the order of fifty years old, so that part may be faulty. But the boots were worn, definitely, and I don't ever recall seeing roller skates at Sivil's. I have seen them at other drive ins.
