I do not know but in James G Thompson 1802-1879 published 1988 p.79 says," JGT probably established himself on Little Mineral Creek on the south side of the Red River in Washita Bend, directly across the river from Camp Washita,at the very time that Colonel Dodge and five hundred dragoons were encamped there in 1834. Washita Bend was later called Preston Bend, when the area was part of Red River Section,Republic of Mexico, and was contested by the United Sates as being part of Miller County,Arkansas Territory. The area became Fannin Co.,Republic of Texas in 1837 and then Grayson Co in 1846 about the time Texas joined the United States..In 1840 the Army of the Republic of Texas established a fort at Georgetown in Washita Bend. The new village that developed nearby was named Preston after Lt William Preston, one of the officers at Georgetown. Washita Bend was then called Preston Bend, but JGT continued to call it Washita Bend."

There are no specific sources for the Lt Preston information. Perhaps Preston was named for someone other then the ROT soldier. Who do you think Preston was named for MC?
