A lot of this has been reported, discussed previously on this or the other Dallas History message board although I am told that the "search" features are sometimes problematic and that some archives have been lost. I think mention has been made of a historic site in Oak Cliff, once a gambling den, with an escape tunnel for patrons in the event of a police raid. I think there was a DHS organized tour several years back. The presence of big storm drains under downtown Dallas that exhausted into the river used to be well known. I don't know if the big concrete pipes are still visible from the bridges over the Trinity or not. One of the more interesting "second gunman" theories ICW the death of JFK posited a gunman firing from a storm drain and then escaping through such a tunnel. I think that possibility was mentioned in a book by a member of a mob family and attributed to a tale told by a prison imnate. It is my understanding that sound tests were made that discredited the idea. One of the rites of passage for elementary school age boys in Park Cities was to walk the storm drains that led into Curtis Park and also into Turtle Creek from a pont near the University Park City Hall. There may have been others, in Park Cities and Dallas, but those were the only two I was ever in. IIRC, there was an article in D Magazine about those tunnels a nember of years back.
Having mentioned the above, I would consider the most interesting such things to be the now unused old delivery tunnels and so on under the downtown area. I'd like to see those. I think that was the point of the original question although it does not seem that GOOGLING would be so hard. I sure agree that going into the storm drains was not to be done if there was threat of rain. That was at the back of my mind when I went in as youngster. My entry point for the tunnel to Curtis Park was the low spot at Dublin and Amherst and when I was young there was almost always a trickle of water in the gutter of Dublin. Probably there was a small natural watercourse there once, draining water from the SW side of Caruth Hill. And I don't remember hearing of something under Adamson before. I hope there will be more on that.
