There is (or was) a rifle range in the basement at Kimball H.S. also. I suspect that all the DISD high schools had a rifle range, since they all offered ROTC courses. Well, at Kimball when I was there it was NDCC (for National Defense Cadet Corps). The student body naturally referred to us as the "Indecency Cadets." We only had one instructor, Major White when I was there, whereas ROTC units had an officer and a couple of non-coms. I think the corps at Kimball became an ROTC unit later. We also had to buy our own uniforms, and I believe that ROTC units furnished uniforms for the cadets.
We practiced live firing in the rifle range, with 0.22 caliber rifles.
