In 1900, Texas Power and Light built their first electric power plant,, in Trinidad, Texas.
Trinidad, TX.,, is 15 miles due East of Corsicana, on the banks of the Trinity River.
This location was selected because it had plenty of water to convert to steam, and also big barges could bring in all the very heavy turbines, etc., up the Trinity River. Also a coal mine was very close by,, East approx 12 miles outside of Malakoff, TX.
Coal was burned to produce heat in order to produce steam to run the electrical generators.
The plant today is still in running condition for overload and emergency use.
