Thing about the bumblebee was that it got stuck in the ball of my foot and tried desperately to get away while I screamed my head off, holding my right foot in my hand and the bee buzzed loudly. My Mom came running out to the neighbor's yard, said something about how they never mowed their grass, knocked the bee loose, minus stinger which was still stuck in my foot, and proceeded to do minor surgery to get the stinger out.
Some things one never forgets, but I probably did continue to enjoy summer barefooted at least for the rest of that short time. Going outside barefooted and iced tea from June to September really were what summer was about. Almost forgot crew cuts. I could only have them when school was out. Come September, it was back to letting it grow so it could be parted.
Think I'll go out on the back deck and hold onto this Summer before it is gone.
