My Dad was an ATC at DFW for many years and knew many of the blimp guys, so we were often at Red Bird in the 1970's when they always based out of the front of the airport just behind the fire-house. You could just drive right out in to the field and hang-out with the crew. On Thanksgiving, since they had to be in the air during the Cowboys game, the fight/ground/support crews would have a big Holiday dinner at the Wyatt's across the street before they left for the game.
The area North of the airport, S of Loop 12 and east of Boulder was also a nice hang-out. As fearless teens we would follow the creek down and under Loop 12 until it joined Crow Creek and then follow Crow under Hampton and down towards Five Mile behind the Kiest Park Tennis Courts.
